Most of our mens hooded thobes are designed to be worn all year. This collection is different. It’s built specifically for the colder months, with a thicker fabric, a fuller cut and a hood that actually does its job. If you’ve ever stood outside the masjid after Fajr with your hands in your pockets wishing you’d worn a coat, this is the thobe you’ve been looking for.

The Five Winter Tests

A proper thick thobe for winter has to pass five tests. Ours are made to pass them all.

  1. The warmth test.
     The fabric is noticeably heavier than a summer thobe, so it holds body heat close and keeps the cold out.
  2. The wind test.
     The full hood comes up over your head and neck, so a cold gust on the walk to the masjid doesn’t go straight through you.
  3. The damp test.
     British winters are as much wet as cold. A thicker fabric doesn’t go limp and cling in drizzle the way a light cotton thobe can.
  4. The movement test.
     The relaxed Moroccan cut gives you room to pray, sit and walk freely, even with a jumper underneath.
  5. The looks test.

Thick Hooded Thobe or Djellaba?

Both will keep you warm, but there’s a small difference. A traditional djellaba is usually fuller and longer, often with detailed embroidery around the neck and chest. Our thick hooded thobes are a little cleaner and simpler, which makes them easier to wear every day.

Sizes Made With Layering in Mind

Our size chart follows UK sizing, from S to 8XL. Winter thobes are cut with a little room, so you can wear a jumper or thermal underneath without feeling squeezed. Bigger sizes are cut in proportion and cost the same £60.

If you’d like extra room for layering, or you sit between sizes, our custom made thobes service means we’ll stitch yours to your exact measurements. Just let us know you’ll be layering, and we’ll allow for it.

Want to Change Something?

Every thobe is cut and stitched in our own workshop, so small changes are easy:

  • Add embroidery around the neck or hood
  • Choose buttons or a zip front
  • Make any design in a different winter colour
  • Ask for a slightly longer or roomier cut

Keeping Your Winter Thobe in Good Shape

  • Wash gently in cold water, or hand wash.
  • Dry flat or on a hanger, away from radiators.
  • Brush off any lint with a clothes brush between wears.
